Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't the foundation make grants to non-profits as it has in the past?
The foundation has a rich history of supporting innovative, foundation-initiated projects. One foundation-initiated project, The Catalogue for Philanthropy, was started in 1997 and continues to be a positive influence in the promotion of philanthropy across Massachusetts and serve as a national model. The foundation has also begun support of a new foundation-initiated project: the creation on an 18th century Bach-inspired organ for a new cultural arts center in Cambridge, MA. Because of the foundation's limited resources, the Board decided to focus our efforts on this new project and on organizations where our trustees are actively involved.
Will the foundation ever go back to its previous giving priorities?
The Board has made a commitment to focus on our foundation-initiated projects and trustee-sponsored programs for the next several years. Of course, we will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of these projects on an ongoing basis and may alter our guidelines if necessary.
