President's Report 2008

Since fall 2007 the foundation has returned to making a limited number of small grants in addition to its ongoing support for the building of a Bach organ in the forthcoming ConstellationCenter in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Last year we supported the renovation of a parent and teacher lounge at the Ravenswood Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois. This year, the Catalogue for Philanthropy, which we originated from its first edition in Massachusetts in 1997, received a grant in support of its strategic decision to be published entirely on the Web beginning in 2008. Wizard Music, the developer of a children’s music compositional website devised by composer Morton Subotnick and Joan La Barbara, received a grant in support of the site’s further enhancement. Cocoon Theater, a children’s theater company in Rhinebeck, New York, received a grant in support of scholarships intended for local qualifying families.

All of these grants were originally proposed by board members in accordance with our recent grant-making policy.
